The black painted edge has started to lift on both rear light covers, I was wondering if you guys could recommend a suitable paint to use on plastics.

I've done a search on PH, in some cases going back to 05 in the Chim forum wobble and couldn't find an answer. One guy suggested a paint called 'krylon fusion spray paint' but apparently it's not imported into the U.K. as is contains some nasty stuff.

Any thoughts on using RC model paint? I've seen it used on polycarb shells with some good results.

I got a good result with normal satin black rattle can by masking up the cover carefully then keying the inside of the part to be painted with 1500 grit emery paper before spraying. Been on a couple of years and they still look perfect.

Why not mask the area off and spread silicone on it, it is only going to get sealed in with silicone once you've done it, or you could get some vinyl for the area you want back.

Exactly what I did. The Paint is on the inside so it doesn't have to be anything special, it's only there to give a neat appearance, and hide the silicone sealant that bonds it to the body.

Thanks for the replies, normal paint it is thumbup

Forums are a fantastic place to gain knowledge, they can however give you information over load, you start to doubt what you know will be an O.K. solution.

A couple of posts I found whilst trawling the archives mentioned that normal paint does not adhere to plastic very well( So off I go in search of plastic paint). They also mentioned the sealant is only as strong as the adhesion of the paint to the plastic, in some cases there was talk of covers just falling off eek

Sanding the area with 1500 will give a good key, however I wasn't sure if you would see the marks or it would give the appearance of a greyish band instead of black.

Two of you can't be wrong biggrin

Thanks for the reply Kev.

I think when removing the masking tape you'd have to be very careful not to leave stray 'stringy' bits all over the cover.
